POSITION: Debt Collector
Pretor Debt Collectors is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Debt Collector to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance and effectiveness for our clients, primarily Body Corporates (Sectional Title Act schemes) and Homeowners’ Associations within gated communities.
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong administrative skills, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a high standard of service. The role requires a professional individual who can communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and colleagues, and who is comfortable handling telephonic queries and client follow-ups.

We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong administrative skills, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a high standard of service. The role requires a professional individual who can communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and colleagues, and who is comfortable handling telephonic queries and client follow-ups.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Contact new owners and confirm that contact details on the system are correct before handing over for collection.
- Send letters of demand / sms’s to owners in arrears.
- Institute legal action against owners with arrear levies in accordance with collections process.
- Liaise with owners with arrear accounts and assisting with queries.
- Follow up payment arrangements (diarise) to ensure arrangements are kept.
- Refer arrangements for longer than 3 months to the Trustees / Directors of a complex.
- Monitor the progress of handed over matters and assist attorneys with information and instructions.
- Monitor attorneys to ensure that legal reports make sense and reflect sufficient service.
- Ensure that owners who are marked as debtors are charged (Recoveries).
- Provide Trustees / Directors with progress reports.
- Mark individual accounts that do not receive demand letters.
- Ensure that on Clearances: pend action / follow up expired figures / proceed with legal action if after 2 months no extension is requested.
- Give feedback to Portfolio Managers – highlight successes and problems on blocks on a monthly basis.
- On HOA’s read and understand implications of Articles of memorandum of Association.
Desired Experience & Qualification:
- Matric and debt collection experience within the property industry.
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Outlook & Excel).
- Legal qualifications will be advantageous.
- Recently admitted attorney will be advantageous.
- Legal experience will be advantageous.
- Ability to work under pressure and against deadlines.
- Strong service ethic (internal and external customer service).
- Assertive.
- Ability to take ownership and resolve issues.
- Self-starter.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Clear understanding of the legal collections process.
